Oriole 3

Oriole (U.S.A.) / c. 1959

Design: The font used for the label name is Park Avenue, designed in 1933 for the American Type Foundry by Robert E. Smith. It became hugely successful for formal invitations and the like, but is not often seen in display sizes, as here, since its weight-to-height ratio is very low.

History: It is doubtful if this is a descendant of the well-known 1921-founded Oriole Record label by McCrory's Stores, which eventually died out in 1937, or the Levy Bros. label in the U.K. Label scan courtesy of collector Owen Burgess of Canada.
