Oriole 2

Oriole (U.K.) / c. 1959

back next

Design: The Oriole label underwent several design changes over its lifespan (beginning in the 1920s), this being one of the later versions. The design is strong yet unremarkable, featuring a bold cursive script for the label name (this time with no curving baseline or cap line, unlike previous versions) and a border with x-shaped patterns at the four main points of the compass.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K., who notes that the label used both CB and LB prefixes on its serial numbers (evidently this master was from the U.S. Mercury label).
