Mysto-Magic (U.S.A.) / c. 1950

Design: An air of wizardly mystery is evoked by the ghostly lettering and electrical flashes; the mystery is deepened further by the fact that the song titles are not listed.

History: A children's record featuring three tracks, the arbitrary playing order depending on which groove the needle settled in. Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who notes: "This is not a new invention -- in Germany between 1932 and 1933 Odeon issued records under the name 'Zauberplatte' ('Magic Record') using the same technology."
