Design: The graphic treatment has become more design-conscious, the colour combination brighter. The shading behind the posterized face of the god Mercury, seen in the previous label, has been almost all summarily removed (rather crudely, in the film negative, by a knife-cut which has left a messy edge on the right side), immediately bringing the image into the 1950s. The face has been tilted to the left to visually counterbalance the right-leaning slant of the label name.
History: Mercury Records was founded in Chicago in 1945 and quickly became a major force in the music industry. It is still active today. Label scan courtesy of collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
