Mars (U.S.A.) / c. 1956

Design: A very plain and unimaginative label, considering the avant-garde type of jazz music featured. The label name is set in Bodoni bold capitals, and the whole set by slug-cast letterpress machinery (note the poorly-aligned caps of the label name), making it a low-cost production.

History: An LP cut by Woody Herman in about 1955 was titled 'Men from Mars,' which may well have spawned this label name (possibly a label launched by Woody Herman himself, to be sold at live concerts?).
