Leijona (Finland) / 1952

back next

Design: A very stylish design with strong lettering and powerful graphics, with the lion devouring the spindle hole. The main strokes of the label name lettering widen at the top, radiating out from the spindle hole. The song title is highlighted on a broad stripe, but three differently-angled elements (the lion, the label name, the stripe) create visual conflict.

History: 'Leijona' is Finnish word for 'lion.' Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
