La Voce del Padrone

La Voce del Padrone (Italy) / c. 1950

back next

Design: The standard His Master's Voice format, in a nice burgundy and gold colour combination.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who writes: "'The Chant' was recorded by Jelly Roll Morton and His Red Hot Peppers September 15, 1926, and was reissued after WW2 on both the HMV and La Voce Del Padrone labels. Ignore the descriptive 'Swing' written on the label -- it's hot jazz at its best! Musicians were George Mitchell (cornet), Kid Ory (trombone), Omer Simeon (clarinet), Jelly Roll Morton (piano), John St. Cyr (banjo), John Lindsay (bass)  and Andrew Hilaire (drums)."
