Konsert

Konsert (South Africa) / c. 1952

Design: The illustration shows an ox-drawn waggon in front of the flat-topped Table Mountain, near which is the city of Cape Town, South Africa; to the right is the peak called Lion's Head. The scene recalls the Great Trek of the Boer settlers, who left that area by the thousands in the early 1830s in an effort to escape British rule (the British had declared slavery illegal, which the Boers claimed disrupted their 'God-given' social order). The illustration is nicely contained in a semicircular frame, with the label name in inline lettering.

History: Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K., who notes that this record was recorded in Johannesburg but pressed in London, England.
