Jolly Roger

Jolly Roger (U.S.A.) / 1951

Design: The label name is typeset in an excellent 'Gothic' letterpress font called Engravers, but it is a pity that the instantly recognizable skull and crossbones flag was not used as a supplementary graphic image. Why the colour combination of green and silver is used is also not clear; perhaps black and white or black and silver would have been more appropriate.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who writes: "Jolly Roger was in fact a pirate label. The parent company was Paradox Industries, owned by jazz enthusiast Dante Bollettino, who also issued the (also pirate) Pax label."
