Ultraphon (Czechoslovakia) / c. 1947

Design: The asymmetrical layout is visually well-balanced, with the label name travelling in an arc from the left but falling short of the reversed-out panel aligning to the right. The 'Vzorkova deska' (sample disc) monoline script lettering contrasts well with the bold sans serif of the label name.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Gabriel Gössel of Czechoslovakia, who writes: "The above is the very last 'sample' label of Czech Ultraphon, which features the recording of a jazz composition with scat vocals. It would remain unreleased after the jazz-hating communists staged a coup in 1948."
