Trek (South Africa) / c. 1946

Design: A hodge-podge collage including an accordion and a record make up a comedic 'logo' figure above the spindle hole, while other swashes fill up the remaining space.

History: The label name brings to mind the famous 'trek' of the Dutch-descended Boer settlers, who in 1835 moved lock, stock and barrel away from the Cape Colony rather than be subject to British colonial rule, which had outlawed the slave trade, and which the Boers wished to continue. Label scan courtesy of collector and musicologist Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
