Star 1

Star (Japan) / c. 1948

back next

Design: The effect of a star illuminating a night sky is attempted by way of line work instead of gradated screen. Shading on early labels was achieved by hand-done stippling (as on the Lyric label), in later years by airbrush and photographic screens (as on the Nippon Polydor label).

History: Thanks to collector Jovan Kovacevic of Serbia for the following updated info: "The Star label is Japanese [not Chinese, as previously assigned]. The script on the bottom, among other things, reads 'Japanese Victor.'
