Standard 2

Standard (Austria) / 1949

Design: The label name is lettered in a monoline script, as if done with a pen having a flat circular end to the nib. Popping up through the banner on which the lettering appears are a couple of quarter-notes made up with shiny elliptical records, and highlighted by a shadow in the second colour. The use of red for the label name and a white release in the upper segment adds dimension and visual impact to the design, though why one segment should have sharp corners and the other rounded ones is unclear.

History: Label and sleeve scans courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who notes: "Even though many Standard records are still offered in Austria, I could find no details about the label other than almost all the orchestras and vocalists are from Austria -- note that the wording surrounding the label is in French, but that on the sleeve is in German!"
