Signature 1

Signature (U.S.A.) / c. 1947

Design: The treble clef is used as a rather unimaginatively here in this pedestrian design, with the label name set in a plain bold roman font. Perhaps a better treatment would have been to use a freely-drawn script lettering for the label name, in imitation of an actual signature (e.g. the Original label of a later date).

History: Collector Dave Dixon of Canada writes: "Signature was owned throughout its entire existence by record producer Bob Thiele. It started in the early 1940s as a jazz specialty label but soon grew into a label with nationwide distribution and in the postwar years expanded into the pop music field."
