Rex (U.K.) / c. 1948

back next

Design: This bulbous-looking design looks rather like a dummy for a ladies' corset manufacturer (similarities may be seen in the Parlophone label from the same period). The space at the top is left open for a mechanical copyright stamp. The angular, block-serifed 'Rex' lettering is out of character with the curvilinear nature of other design elements.

History: At first produced by the Crystalate group as a cheap label, Rex continued on after Crystalate was bought out by Decca, and survived until 1948.
