Design: Classy traditional treatment of the label name in Gothic-style lettering and a beautifully-drawn crown. The decorative dots around the outer edge may also serve as a stroboscopic speed-check.

History: Capitol Records was founded in Los Angeles in 1942 by singer/songwriter Johnny Mercer, Capitol Canada being launched in 1947 with Ken Kerr (a former Sparton Records sales manager) running Capitol's Canadian operations. Shortly after, Government restrictions on foreign investments forced that company's closure, so in 1948 Kerr and two other associates founded the above label, Regal Records (meanwhile, Capitol Canada's records were being pressed by Musicana). In June 1949 Regal signed the lucrative contract of pressing Capitol's Canadian releases.
