Design: A powerful graphic image of a jazz trumpeter, with no sign of the wing-helmeted god of Greek mythology. The elements are well balanced, even with a mix of centred and asymmetrical styles.
History: Mercury Records was formed in New York around 1945 by Irving Green, Berle Adams and Arthur Talmadge, and bought out by Philips in 1961. 'Jazz at the Philharmonic' was a series of concerts featuring preeminent musicians, and ran from 1944 until 1983. The first concert was held at the Philharmonic Auditorium, Los Angeles.
