Melodje (Poland) / c. 1946

Design: The label name, set in an Art Deco-inspired sans serif typeface, has an interesting hump-backed base line, and is superimposed over the outline of a stylized lyre. The upper segment panel has the 'paper cut-out' look typical of 1950s labels.

History: According to collector Lucyna Lachowitz of Poland, Melodje and Mewa were both independent labels owned by Mieczyslaw Wejman of the city of Poznan, which in 1950 were nationalized by the state and, along with other privately owned labels, incorporated into the state-run Muza label.
