Melodisc 2

Design: A complex piece of artwork for the label name, the spindle hole being used as the bowl of the cap 'O,' the label name being treated three-dimensionally as well as having a convex cap-line, which gives it great strength, but the encroachment of the lettering into the lower segment restricts the area available for imprinting while leaving the upper segment very open. The 'O' is also treated as a music note, introducing a further complication, but the visual gimmick does not come off very well. The overall treatment is very hard-edged for such a soft-sounding name (compare with the graphic treatment of the European label of the same name).

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany.
