Kogut (U.S.A. ethnic) / c. 1946

back next

Design: A plain typographic label, featuring fonts from hot-metal typecasting machines, the label name appearing in a 'modern' Bodoni bold style (thick verticals, thin horizontals). Silver became a popular overprinting colour in the 1940s into the 1950s, most often on a burgundy background.

History: Unknown (have info? Please send to info.re.78s@shaw.ca); the oberek is a lively dance from the Polish culture, so this is evidently aimed at European immigrants to the U.S.A. Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
