Jazz Society 2

Jazz Society (France) / c. 1947

Design: A completely different design than the previous label. The illustration of a Mississippi steamboat is very similar to that seen on the Crescent City Records label; both are first-class pieces of commercial art. Several pairs of initials appear on the label: 'RS' appears on the side of the vessel; the artist's initials 'PM' appear outside the drawing, while the reference number 'JU 52' may refer to 'Jazz Unlimited,' an American company specializing in jazz reissues.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who notes that this is #180 of a limited edition of 300, but that further details about the label are obscure -- "pre-war labels are better documented that those after!"
