Durium

Durium (Italy) / c. 1959

back next

Design: The label name sub-title translates as "The Voice of the Empire," so this is evidently a product of the Mussolini era, and features a row of blaring trumpets. The capitals of the label name use the classical-era Roman 'V,' as seen on stone inscriptions instead of the modern 'U.' The letters U, J and W (or double-U), did not become part of the roman (western) alphabet until the medieval era.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Francesco Martinelli of Italy.
