Design: A strong brush script with the distinctive dome of the Capitol building and stars make a powerful logo; the word 'Americana' is treated with a billboard Tuscan face from the late 18th century.
History: Formed in Los Angeles in 1942 by ex-Paul Whiteman Orchestra members Johnny Mercer and Buddy de Sylva as a West Coast challenge to the New York-dominated record business. The Capitol name is still going.
