Blue Star

Blue Star (France) / 1947

Design: The condensed, round-ended sans serif letterforms contrast with the sharp-pointed star, which in itself suggests an American influence, the single star being used on American military aircraft and equipment, and would have been a well-recognized presence in post-WWII Europe.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who writes: "This session was recorded at Studio Technisonor, Paris, France on June 12, 1947. I don't know for sure whether Blue Star was another label by jazz enthusiast and promoter Hugues Panassie (who launched the Swing label). Don Byas, the featured artist, moved from the USA to France permanently in 1946, and later moved to Spain."
