Asterisk

Asterisk (U.K.?) / c. 1946

back next

Design: A straightforward design utilizing a decorative arrangement of asterisks. Several fonts based on the 1920s Futura model appeared in the 1930s and 1940s, such as Linotype Metro, which is used for the label name (note its sharply-pointed cap 'A,' in contrast with its flat-topped relative below).

History: Collector and musicologist Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K. comments: "I think this is an illegal copy of the following item: Ray Noble and His Orchestra (recorded in London, February 1, 1934): OB-4770-2 'Who walks in when I walk out?' HMV B-6453, Victor 24594." Label scan courtesy of collector and jazzologist Dave Dixon of Canada.
