Angkor Wath

Angkor Wath (Cambodia) / c. 1949

Design: The imprinting of Cambodian script (and roman lettering) has been done on a pre-printed 'shell,' as revealed by the mis-alignment. The logo shows an elephant, famous for its extreme sensitivity in spite of its size, carefully steps over a music staff while cradling a record in its trunk.

History: Manufactured in France, evidently as a memento to be sold at the world-famous site of Buddhist temples. Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
