Design: One of the relatively few labels to show a portrait of the composer, in this case a reproduction of a copperplate engraving. Henry Purcell (1659-1695) is considered to be one of England's greatest composers of music in the Baroque style. The symmetrical design is basic, the label name and the composer's name being hand-lettered to fit the available space.
History: Produced for the English Music Society (presumably as one of a series) by Columbia. Label scan courtesy of collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
