Superior (U.S.A.) / 1931

Design: A stable-mate of the Champion label: many similarities can be seen in the design treatment, especially the outside border and the 'electrically recorded' line. The logo is interesting in that while it shows a curling swash above the name and a straight one below, both reflect characteristics of the lettering itself. The underlining swash shows the classic concave ending, as seen in the earlier Resona label.

History: Produced by Gennett Records, Superior records were first issued in December 1930, just as the U.S.A. was entering the throes of the Great Depression. Less than two years later, with sales of all records having dried up, the label had expired.
