Stella (France) / c. 1939

Design: A very strong image of a large star crossed positively and negatively by the label name, a complex design which would actually have been quite economical to produce. In English parlance the name would more likely have been spelled 'Stellar' rather than the woman's name, as here.

History: Label scan courtesy of music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K. Thanks for updated info to collector Marcel Ardisson of Monaco, who writes: "Pathé-Marconi of France manufactured records at 33, 45 and 78 rpm for other publishers, and to distinguish them from their own stock would add the word 'Part' or the letters 'P.A.' ('Private') to the reference numbers. [The similarity of layout arrangement can be seen by comparing with the Pathé label.] Judging by the '#1' catalogue number shown here, this is likely the first appearance of this particular recording."
