Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands

Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (Germany) / 1930

back next

Design: A dynamic layout with bold assymetrical treatment of a red flag bearing the party logo (a combination of cap S and lowercase d in the Gothic style) balanced by the speaker's photograph. The party name and address, constituting the label name, very skilfully drawn and arranged around the outer edge, show some very creative letterforms, the result of advanced teaching in lettering (and applied design) in Germany's schools of art, which were far ahead of other European countries.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany, who notes: "These records were occasionally issued by the Sozialdemokratische Partei of Germany Deutschlands (Social Democratic Party) to promote membership for the election of the 5th Reichstag, to be contested on September 14th, 1930 (here showing speaker Mrs. Marie Arning). This party was in no way related to the Nazis."
