Miki Elektro

Miki Elektro (Poland) / c. 1932

Design: Straddling the spindle hole, Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse carries a record in his three-fingered, gloved left hand. Mickey made his first appearance in 1928, but his popularity grew enormously in the early 1930s, as he appeared in comic strips as well as on the movie screen; whether this company had the legal right to use the Mickey Mouse image is unknown. This image seems to be from that early era; his modern image is more sophisticated. Note the attempt to suggest perspective (perhaps a wide-screen effect) in the typesetting of the label name.

History: Scan of this 7" diameter label (intended for children) courtesy of collector Lucyna Lachowicz of Poland, who notes: "This label may be a Syrena Electro subsidiary. Syrena, the biggest record company in Poland, had several other brand names on the market."
