Etoile Musette

Etoile Musette (France) / c. 1932

Design: A strange name ('Star bag?' 'Star bagpipe?') and an equally strange design, the image depicting a large star shining down (or shooting across the skies) while for some inexplicable reason the label name, drawn in perspective, narrows down in an opposite direction. The choice of Gothic lettering is also something of a mystery; the label was probably produced well before WWII because Gothic lettering came to be negatively associated with the threat of German expansionism.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
