Esta 1

Esta (Czechoslovakia) / 1930

back next

Design: The Esta logo appears to be a stylized stork, a large bird which migrates across Europe, and whose arrival over towns to make their nests on rooftops is considered to be a sign of great good fortune (a very similar image is used by the German airline Lufthansa, right). The use of English around the outer perimeter might suggest that the records were meant for export.

History: Label scans courtesy of collector Gabriel Gössel of Czechoslovakia, who notes: "The very first Esta records were made of flexible celluloid instead of shellac."
