Design: The label name, arranged in an unusual half-moon format, is set in a still-popular font named Kabel Black, which was designed by German typographer Rudolf Koch in about 1927. The linked ESI logo, drawn in the 1930s Art Deco style, bears some similarity to a tenor clef, and sits on a music staff. The colour combination of red and gold, often difficult to read, is here quite legible.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector and musicologist Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
