Discobel

Discobel (France) / c. 1932

Design: In the upper segment, a naked, hairy and demonic-looking figure with a forked tail seems to be clutching an outsized disc; perhaps this, via the label name, derives from the classical Greek disc[us]-thrower Discobolus. The typographical treatment is Art Deco in character.

History: Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
