Disclair (France) / c. 1931

back next

Design: The influence of Art Deco is evident in the sunrise motif, a key image of the movement (compare with the Parnasse label). The well-drawn inline lettering of the label name effectively extends the rays of the sun.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Graham Farnell of the U.K. Thanks for updated info to collector Marcel Ardisson of Monaco, who writes: "Disclair disks were sold in department stores between 1930 and 1940 (they were not available through specialty stores). My parents used to buy these discs in the Prisunic and Uniprix department store chains in the French Maritime Alps area. They can be classified as low cost 'Hit of the Week' type material, with the singer and orchestra remaining anonymous."
