History: Founded in 1928, Decca soon became the second largest record company in the world. It was taken over by MCA in the 1970s. Thanks to Marcus for the following info: "The Decca name has nothing to do with Dulcettone-Barnet Samuels or Mecca [as previously suggested here, by way of other sources]. It's the first five notes of a Beethoven symphony, and is clearly shown on early scripted sleeves, and is also why the image of Beethoven appears on the early labels."
