Design: Bold typography in panels superimposed on a strong decorative pattern, in an attractive light blue, dark blue and gold colour combination. The sign in front of the '1950' is not from the same font as the figures. Around the outer edge are the names of all the firms that comprised the new EMI group: HMV, Columbia, Parlophone and Regal Zonophone.

History: A contest sponsored by the British national newspaper, the Daily Mail. The purchaser of the record had to guess the identity of the more than two dozen artists on the record, a huge prize of 1,950 being offered to the winner in the January of the following year. Label scan courtesy of jazzologist and collector Dave Dixon of Canada.
