Ace Record

Ace Record (U.K.) / c. 1932

Design: In this rather elaborate design, the playing-card symbols of the aces of hearts, clubs, spades and (half a) diamond are combined into a single image above the spindle hole, with the word 'Record' spelled out below without utilizing the spindle hole as the letter 'O,' so that the word appears as 'Recoord.'

History: Dorothy Holbrook and her all-female orchestra, the Harmony Hussars, enjoyed commercial success in Britain in the 1930s and 1940s, including some screen appearances. Label scan courtesy of musicologist and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
