Design: The great Louis Armstrong, who was just as popular an entertainer and jazz ambassador in Europe as in the U.S. (perhaps even more so), is given pride of place here, on one of the few labels to show a photograph of any artist. A very lively design, with the consummate showman Armstrong hamming it up for the camera. The odd-looking lettering for his name is perhaps based on his signature.

History: Evidently a limited-edition subscription label for French jazz aficionados; the date of the original recording is shown as November 26, 1924. Label scan courtesy of collector Georg Richter of Germany.
