The Bell 1

The Bell (U.K.) / c. 1924

back next

Design: The bell logo, with the 'Ring(s) Out Loud and Clear' blurb can be seen in a different form on the Edison Bell Winner label (right). The child to the left, dressed in a wide-collared suit and sitting on a three-legged stool, is nursery rhyme character Little Jack Horner ('What a good boy am I!'), who shows the plum he has pulled out of his pie. Probably the label was intended for the children's market and sold through 'dime-store' outlets such as J. W. Woolworth's.

History: Produced by J.E. Hough at the Edison Bell works in London. Label scan courtesy of collector Graham Farnell of the U.K.
