Sirena American Record (Poland) / c. 1923

back next

Design: The word 'Record' seems to have been a later addition to the words 'Sirena American,' since the lettering is in a completely different style and is not nearly as well-drawn. Breaking the word in half to avoid the spindle hole is also a crude solution to the problem. The word 'Sirena,' by contrast, is well-arranged and well-proportioned to fit the allotted space.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Lucyna Lachowicz of Poland, who notes that this recording was actually made in Kiev, Russia, in 1911.
