Polyphon 2

Polyphon (Finland) / c. 1927

Design: A different rendering of the logo from the previous label, to fit within a more restricted area now that the phrase 'Electrical Recording' (set in a Victorian-era extra-wide Latin font), is featured as a selling point. The main line of the imprinting is also set in a late Victorian-era font, but this time of the ultra-condensed variety. Printing costs have been minimized by dropping the black and red colours of the previous label.

History: Thanks to collector Georg Richter of Germany for the following updated info re the history of Polyphon: "The original Polyphon (from 'Polyphon Werke') did not merge with Polydor [as earlier suggested here]. The DGG ('Grammophon') became a subsidiary of Polyphon for political reasons." Label scan courtesy of collector Jukka Kettunen of Finland.
