Design: In 'fine' art, the highly realistic, moralistic images of the late Victorian Pre-Renaissance school began by the turn of the century to de-focus into the blur of French Impressionism and Fauvism. Art soon plunged into aesthetic anarchy with Cubism, Expressionism and other schools, all of which held sentimental realism in deep contempt. The abstract patterns shown here were influenced by post-WWI revolutionary painterly trends in art, which often turned to the styles exhibited by primitive cultures for inspiration.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Martín Javier Gorosito of Argentina, who notes: "Pathé produced records under the 'Artistique' name featuring avant-garde graphic artwork."
