Design: The earliest version of the label, which appeared in gold on a black background, showed the eagle sitting on top of a phonograph. This gold-on-blue version, with the eagle perched on a globe, appeared after 1920. Further minor design changes to the label would occur in the late 1920s, and in 1926 the background colour reverted to black.
History: One of several labels pressed by the New York Recording Laboratory, located in Wisconsin (other well-known labels included Broadway, Famous etc.). Paramount's 'race' series, which appeared in 1924, issuing items from the defunct Black Swan label and aimed primarily at black purchasers, are highly sought-after by collectors.
