Oriental Record Co. (China) / c. 1929

Design: Beautiful calligraphic flourishes above the spindle hole, in the European pen-drawn tradition rather than the brush-painted lettering of Chinese calligraphy, as per the label name at the top. While the word 'Oriental' appears to have been been typeset, with flourishes added later by hand, the word 'Record' seems to have been hand-drawn (compare the lowercase 'e' in 'Oriental' to that in 'Record.'

History: Unknown (have info? Please send to info.re.78s@shaw.ca). Label scan courtesy of music researcher and collector Bill Dean-Myatt of the U.K.
