Okeh 4

Okeh (U.S.A.) / 1928

Design: The same layout as previous but with a monochrome black and grey colour combination. One of relatively few record labels to feature a picture of the performer and even fewer to carry a facsimile signature (which reveals him as a well-grounded, well-balanced, optimistic and even-tempered person who clearly liked to make a good impression on others), and this one even carries a personal message!

History: Jazz pianist Seger Ellis (1904-1995) was also a vocalist who made several records, mostly on the Victor label; here he announces a new recording contract with Okeh, but like many other labels it was hit hard by the Great Depression and faded out in the early 1930s.
