Odeon 6

Odeon (Germany) / 1922

back next

Design: A dramatic redesign, revealing the desire of post-World War I Germany to throw out the trappings of the old world and make a fresh start toward a new society. Revisionist thought meant the rejection of decoration for its own sake and a bold, logical approach to design problems, from architecture down to bus tickets. The influence of schools such as the Bauhaus would reverberate through all areas of applied design.

History: Launched in Germany in 1903, Odeon records were imported into the U.S.A. following WWI, but never achieved the level of success enjoyed in European markets.
