Disco Riviera

Disco Riviera (Italy) / c. 1926

Design: The illustration, decidedly amateur in execution, shows some of the lush plant life of the region. The label name lettering, although treated as brush script, shows a tendency toward Art Deco styling, with stiff, angular vertical strokes.

History: Label scan courtesy of collector Giuliana Fugazzotto of Italy, who writes: "'Riviera' refers to the coastline of the Ligurian region [which adjoins the French Riviera]. This label mostly presents songs in Italian or in the dialect of Genoese artists. Giuseppe Marzari (1900-1974) was a comic actor famous between the 1930s and the 1950s for his performances in the Genoese dialect."
