Design: The artwork was obviously meant to reflect the label name, but the feminine-looking knight behind his protective barrier looks as if he is about to drop his sword rather than issue a challenge! The main line of lettering is an open pen-lettered Gothic, amateurishly done but not without charm. The rather crudely-drawn lines radiating out from behind the carefully-drawn figure were obviously added later by a different hand, in an attempt to give the rather passive design some added impact.
History: Challenge was the cheapest line of records sold by the Sears, Roebuck company. Launched in 1925, it survived until 1928.
